Paddy Lowe: “A new context” with Williams

Return to Whole grained within Williams, after a first successful stint between the end of the 80s and the beginning of the 90s with the epic V10 Renault, Paddy lowe has found a structure which no longer plays the leading roles in F1. A necessary adaptation for the Briton after his last successful campaigns with Mercedes.

“It’s been a good year, with interesting challenges, confessed Paddy Lowe in Brazil. Getting to know the team and its environment, facing certain difficulties specific to mid-ranking teams compared to top teams, is a new experience. »

Paddy Lowe recognizes that Williams Martini Racing has real qualities but that progress still needs to be made to achieve the objective of returning to the top of the grid. “Williams is a good team, which often achieves standards when it comes to pit stops.

This way of operating sets a good example of the team's performance. On the other hand, we need a faster car. We have the ambition to move forward and regain victory. This is why we are here.

During my career, I have been in teams where you could win at any time, it is not easy and it creates pressure, and it is a new context for me. And it's interesting to understand. »

The Halo Challenge

Paddy Lowe and his technical teams have been working for several weeks on the 2018 car, which will notably include the integration of the Halo system. “This is an important project, which will have a more structural than aerodynamic impact, specifies the former Mercedes resident.

Establishing the directions to go, finding the right choices on next year's car, it's an exciting project to take on for the next few months, and we're going to see what we can do by learning from this year. »
