This Spanish Grand Prix was selected by several teams as the ideal place to introduce major improvements to their cars. Ferrari, Mercedes or even Alpine for example will offer various new elements to their drivers for this 6th round of the season. While these teams will (normally) be able to reach a milestone, others plan to continue for a good while with the current package. like Haas.

« Normally Spain is the obvious place to make improvements and I think many teams are planning them. (...) For our part, we decided to wait a little longer regarding the developments because I think we still have performance with the current car, » explained Günther Steiner, team principal of the American team, on the sidelines of the Spanish Grand Prix.

Arriving in the Catalan paddock this Thursday, the Italian logically did not escape questions from journalists concerning the developments of his team. Quickly questioned about the progress of the development of the VF-22, Günther Steiner confirmed that its pilots Mick Schumacher et Kevin Magnussen will have to wait until France (July 22-24), i.e. another 6 Grands Prix, to receive new elements on their single-seaters.

« When we make improvements you will see it's practically everywhere on the car, indicated the leader from Barcelona. We will have a nice package. I wouldn't say it's 'everywhere' on the car, that would be an exaggeration, but there will be big changes. It's not wind, it will be really different. These are not only improvements, it also allows us to understand the car better since we are making progress."

After a surprising start to the season and a 3e place in the championship after the first round in Bahrain, Haas experienced some difficulties during his recent outings and fell back to 8e position. Nothing to discourage his boss Günther Steiner, rather optimistic and patient as the 6th approachese Grand Prix for the 2022 financial year.

« I don't think we will suffer, continues the main Haas team. Otherwise, we should have made the improvements sooner. I have already said before that we made a conscious decision. I think we can get enough out of our current package. I don't know what the others bring. There are big announcements about the updates, but I don't know how good they are. » Mick Schumacher and Kevin Magnussen are warned. They will have to prove themselves with the equipment during a few more Grands Prix!
