Pascal Wehrlein joins Sauber

Clean F1 Team has confirmed the arrival of Pascal Wehrlein alongside Marcus Ericsson for the 2017 season. The 2015 champion of DTM had been tipped for several weeks to replace Felipe Nasr following the progress of transfers disrupted by the surprise retirement of Nico Rosberg.

If Pascal Wehrlein is followed closely like Esteban Ocon by Mercedes, the star manufacturer did not seem ready to leave one of its garages to a young driver. The German brand should soon confirm Valtteri Bottas as the new teammate of Lewis Hamilton.

“It’s a new challenge within a new team and I can’t wait to take part in this adventure, commented Pascal Wehrlein. The goal is to establish ourselves in the middle of the pack and regularly score points. I will do my best to support Sauber and I would like to thank them for putting their trust in me, as well as Mercedes who continue to support me. »

“Pascal has shown incredible talent during his career, whether in car or in DTM, added Monisha Kaltenborn, Team Principal of the Swiss team. He proved he had potential last year by scoring a point at the Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg. He can clearly do more and we want to give him the chance to grow and learn at the top of motorsport. I am sure that Marcus and Pascal will form a strong crew in 2017.”
