Pat Fry will join the Renault technical team in 2020

Pat Fry will strengthen the technical management team ofenstone upon expiry of its current contractual obligations. Renault announced this Saturday, a day after revealing a restructuring of its aerodynamic department marked by the departure of Pete Machin and the return of Dirk de Beer.

Released by McLaren earlier in the season, Fry was the main thinker behind a truly successful McLaren MCL34 as it dominated the factory Renault R.S.19 using the same engine from the Viry-Châtillon workshops.

After starting his career at Benetton in 1987, Fry joined McLaren in 1993. He remained there until 2010 before moving to Ferrari. The British engineer left the Team at the end of 2014 then returned to Manor in a consulting role in 2016 before returning to Woking last winter. At McLaren, he held a provisional technical role pending the arrival of new technical director James Key.

« I look forward to working with Pat again, said Marcin Budkowski, executive director of Enstone, who worked alongside Fry at McLaren earlier in his career. His arrival within the stable is a new stage in the dynamic of construction and improvement of our structure. Pat’s experience, talent and determination will be additional assets to continue our process of progress. »
