The post-season trials of the Formula 1 in Abu Dhabi are an opportunity to see new faces in the premier category of motorsport. This was the case this Tuesday with the presence of Paul Aron at Alpine. The Estonian, third in the championship Formula 2 with Hitech Grand Prix, signed the eighth fastest time of the day with a best lap of 1'24″275, in the wake of his teammate Jack Doohan (1'24″268).

“I had a great day getting behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car for the first time in Abu Dhabi, so I thank the team for this opportunity, said the Estonian. As “As any driver who is new to F1, I now realise how fast these cars are and it was great fun to drive the A524 today. There was a lot to get used to, but in the end everything went well physically. Even after 121 laps I still wanted to do more. We managed to complete our entire programme. The engineers were happy, the pace seemed good, so I think it was a successful day overall. There is a lot to learn and I am already looking forward to my role as reserve driver to continue my development in 2025.”

"A solid day" for Jack Doohan

Paul Aron will indeed be the third driver of the French team in 2025 behind the regular drivers Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan. The Australian, who contested his first F1 Grand Prix on Sunday, completed 137 laps for the team with the A sign. “It was a solid day with over 750 kilometres on the clock; very long, but productive. It was good to get back behind the wheel, especially after my first full Grand Prix weekend. I am very pleased with our work. We tested the Pirelli tyres for 2025, with lots of interesting data and feedback to be given. A huge thank you to the mechanics and engineers who did an exceptional job today. It has been a long season for everyone, and I have a lot of appreciation and gratitude for their efforts on this last day of running this year. I am now looking forward to analysing the data and putting all the valuable learnings from last week into practice next year.”
