The stewards had a heavy hand in the wake of qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix. Surprising 8th on the grid after brilliantly qualifying for Q3, Alexander albon will not be able to benefit from this superb position this Sunday for the race, since he was simply disqualified from the qualifying session. Joe Bauer, the FIA technical delegate, indeed pointed out that the Thai's floor was illegal.
“It was noted that the floor of car 23 was outside the regulatory volume mentioned in Article 3.5.1 a) of the Technical Regulations of the Formula 1», we learned in the official document. “The team did not dispute the calibration of the FIA measurement system and the measurement of the car, but indicated that its own measurements gave different results.
“The stewards determine that the result of the measurement carried out with the FIA system in the Parc Fermé is the relevant result and that the procedure prescribed by the regulations has been followed. Therefore, the standard penalty for such an offense is applied.” The pilot Williams will therefore have to start from the back of the peloton or from the pit lane due to this floor being too large. A difficult day for Grove with the non-participation in the session of Logan sargeant, due to his crash suffered in FP3.
Also, Lewis Hamilton received a three-position penalty on the Grand Prix grid for hindering Sergio Pérez during qualifying. The Englishman, who was to start from 12th place, will therefore start three positions further, in 15th position, but will regain one position thanks to the disqualification of Alex Albon.
