And three! George Russell set to join Lance stroll et Yuki tsunoda among drivers penalized on the grid of the Mexico Grand Prix on Sunday.

Unlike his comrades Aston Martin et Alpha Tauri, the future pilot Mercedes did not change his engine but he suffered a gearbox problem which deprived him of the Free Practice 2 session.

The sporting regulations stipulate that the box must be able to ensure a distance of 6 consecutive Events, knowing that an Event includes Free Practice 3, qualifying, and the race.

The teams are therefore in the habit of using different boxes on Fridays to minimize the risk of penalties. This is particularly what McLaren with Daniel Ricciardo, also slowed down by gearbox problems on the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in FP2. Unlike Russell, the Australian will therefore escape punishment.

Because it happens that the teams assemble the box which will be used in the race from Friday. This was the case of Williams on car of the 23-year-old Briton after FP1.

Unfortunately for Russell, he was unable to complete a single flying lap due to a problem with said gearbox. His change will therefore lead to a drop of 5 places on the grid on Sunday.
