Vitaly Petrov would be able to bring 15 million euros to the team led by Eric Boullier.

Vitaly Petrov made his first appearances in 2001 in the Lada Cup, a discipline which he won the following season. The Russian, born in Sweden, then went into exile to start in Formula Renault 2000 in Italy, without much success.

In 2006, he started in the GP2 Series by participating in eight races with David Price Racing without entering the points and finished 3rd in Euro 3000.

Moving to Campos Grand Prix in 2007, Vitaly Petrov won his first GP2 Series race (Valencia), a performance he repeated the following season (Europe). In 2009, the Russian won two races (Turkey and Europe) and finished second in the championship behind Nico Hulkenberg thanks to seven podiums.

With the arrival of Vitaly Petrov at Renault, the top three in the 2009 GP2 Series rankings have found a place in F1 this season: Hülkenberg at Williams and Di Grassi at Virgin.
