Petrov knows “all the little tricks”

On the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal, Vitaly Petrov experienced a real nightmare. Fourteenth in qualifying, the Russian received two penalties the next day. The first for early departure and the second for hitting the Sauber of Pedro de La Rosa at the first corner. This weekend, for the European Grand Prix, the driver of the number 30 R12 will return to a Valencia circuit that has been successful for him in the past.

“I won a GP2 race here last year, says the Vyborg native. I know all the little tips regarding braking points, the trajectory, which curbs you can climb or not, and even how the tires deteriorate. Obviously, on board a F1 it will be very different. It will be difficult to perform well throughout the weekend, but I will start on a more solid foundation than in Canada. I lived here for three years because that’s where my GP2 team was based. It?s not like having a race at home in your country, in front of your crowd, but it?s always nice to know the places?

In the points in China, Petrov has never managed to repeat such a performance. But the Russian does not arrive in Valencia in unknown territory. In addition, the R30 should receive some small developments. A pleasant surprise cannot therefore be ruled out.
