By arriving at Caterham when winter testing had already started, Vitaly Petrov had everything to learn from his new team. From the technical staff to his teammate, the 2009 GP2 Series runner-up had to build relationships during the first part of the season in order to feel comfortable within Tony Fernandes' structure.
« With Heikki, it's one of the best relationships I've had with a pilot, explains Petrov. He's a good person. If he doesn't perform well in qualifying or in the race, he doesn't close in on himself. He continues to talk, to work and he analyzes everything. It's always a pleasure to talk with him. For me it's different. I always try to find the origin of the problems, but sometimes I can't because I get angry with myself. When you have someone like Heikki on the team, it's hard to close in on yourself, because if he asks you something, it's hard not to answer him, because he will. always. It's important to have this kind of relationship, because after all we are a team.»
