Si Mercedes et Ferrari seem to maintain a margin over the competition in terms of overall performance, Paddy Lowe, technical manager in the reigning double world champion team, believes that the differences between the V6 turbo / hybrid blocks are small.
"The Renault and the Honda are not that far behind the Ferrari and Mercedes engines, so there are not many differences now between the power units, explains the Briton quoted by ESPN. Even the worst engines in Formula One are still incredibly efficient. They are maybe a percent or two worse than the best engines. »
During the off-season, Ferrari is the engine manufacturer to have used the most development tokens authorized by the technical regulations, with 23 tokens used out of the 32 available, while Renault was the most cautious with seven tokens spent.
