No matter the scenario of the 2023 season, Hamilton wants to continue with Mercedes

It didn't take that much to draw. A bit upset by the recent outings of his compatriots world champions Jenson Button (2009) and Damon Hill (1996), who doubt the will of Lewis Hamilton to stay in F1 with an inferior car, the seven-time world champion decided to fight back.

« People who create rumors without facts are never helpful, he first said, echoing the recent declarations of his compatriots. I thought they really knew me after all these years."

Hamilton swears in Mercedes

At the end of his contract next December, Lewis Hamilton has not yet sat down with the directors of Mercedes to discuss an extension. Does he still want to continue? The question deserves to be asked.

Beaten to the wire by Max Verstappen after a controversial finish in Abu Dhabi in 2021, the Briton then had a complicated 2022 year without the slightest pole position or victory. A first for him since his debut in F1 16 years ago. What will discourage him for the future?

« I've been with Mercedes since I was 13, he recalls (McLaren was the armed wing of the star before his return to the factory team).

After the difficult year we had last season, it doesn't matter if we have a difficult year or not in 2023, I will still be here. I am a fighter and we fight as a team. I like the challenge of finding solutions.

I think I will always be able to make a difference where others cannot. I like this challenge. I obviously want us to start the season with an excellent car but it's the whole year that will count."

When will the extension be due?

This angry speech suggests that Lewis Hamilton is ready to sign a new contract. However, the signature is still pending. But for its part, like that of Mercedes, there is no time to rush.

« There is no blockage with our contracthe says. I have always been very relaxed. I don't feel like I have to do it right away. I am lucky to be in this position. This will happen when we are ready. I have a great relationship with Toto (Wolff) and with Mercedes we support each other and I am very excited for the future."

Unless there is a turnaround, the Englishman will therefore be there in 2024. And at Mercedes.
