Oscar piastri will still have to wait a little bit. The reserve pilotAlpine will not participate in Free Practice 1 of the French Grand Prix, contrary to rumors which announced the Australian at the wheel of theAlpine at Paul Ricard. Otmar Szafnauer, director of the French team, declared that “it [was] not the plan to have Oscar ride in France. He will participate in an EL1 session but after the summer break. »

Asked about possible information regarding the future of the young Australian driver, particularly in relation to a transfer to Williams for next season, Szafnauer preferred to kick into touch. “Regarding the rumors with Williams, it would be better to ask Jost [Capito]. It’s good to have one of our young drivers being so desired by the other teams. It shows that he has a lot of potential. »

If the future of Oscar Piastri no longer seems to be in much doubt, there still remains a question mark linked to Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard, at the end of his contract this season, should return with Alpine in the next few days in all likelihood. At a press conference, Otmar Szafnauer denied any agreement with Alonso and Piastri. “Obviously their destinies are linked and it’s a question of timing, but we’re not at that point. I already said it before, in May, that we would start thinking about it around Silverstone and that we would give the decision after the summer break. » So let's wait a few more weeks to get the outcome of the story...
