After the outpouring of the Miami Grand Prix, Alpine has struck a double blow. By announcing the resignation of Olivier Oakes coupled with the promotion of Franco Colapinto to replace Jack Doohan, the teamenstone has found a way to become the center of attention again. Although the decision to change drivers has been expected for many months, even before the first Grand Prix of the season, the news has not left Oscar piastri insensitive.
Former resident of the academy Alpine, and above all compatriot of Jack Doohan, the pilot McLaren had a thought for the one whose journey in Formula 1 seems to end after only six dates. "If this is the end of the road for Jack, I think he can be very proud. It's not an easy thing to come from Australia, there are a lot of difficult decisions to make along the way, he explained to ESPN after the Miami GP. If he's had his last race, then [I'd like to say to him] 'keep your head up, you've been an F1 driver and nobody can take that away from you.' I'm sure he'll have a successful career no matter what."
Piastri as Doohan's mentor
Despite his still limited experience in the discipline, Oscar Piastri is establishing himself as the most in-form driver in the paddock at the moment. As such, it is with a benevolent eye that he puts into perspective the misfortunes of the now new reserve driver ofAlpine. “Coming into F1, especially as a rookie under pressure, I feel sorry for him in some ways, he later told ABC TV. His start to the year hasn't been the easiest and I know how difficult it is to get to F1. So I think whatever happens, he can be very proud of his journey so far."
For his part, Oscar Piastri had also experienced misfortunes with the team with the arrowed A. At the dawn of his first season in Formula 1, the one who had enjoyed success in the promotional categories had seen Alpine announce his signing before the start of the 2023 season. However, the Australian had not yet signed a contract at the time. Preferring to turn to McLaren after this hiccup, Piastri seems to have made the right decision given his current situation. After six appearances, he sits at the top of the championship with a 16-point lead over his teammate, Lando Norris.

Poor Doohan chose the wrong team. His compatriot, Piastri, has a lot of talent, but I don't think he would have done much better. The car, and especially its engine, aren't up to the best. The management is poor, and I fear Briatore's leadership won't change anything. Another blank year. All that's left is to find a team like Bernard Dudot's to hope to see the light at the end of the tunnel. A donkey will never be a racehorse!

With the departure of Doohan and his replacement by Colapinto for a few Grand Prix, Piastri can only be comforted in his decision to have left the fold ofAlpine F1. It remains to be seen whether Doohan will not return in 6 Grand Prix in case Colapinto were to explode as much carbon as during his end of 2024 season at Williams! Unless Brille A Tort, now Almighty God at Alpine, then decides to test Kush Maini, Paul Aron being a "protégé" of Olivier Oakes!
