Alongside the presentation of the new AlphaTauri livery, the AT03, Pierre Gasly looked ahead to the upcoming season. A year which promises to be very uncertain at the moment, in view of these new regulations which have shaken up all the certainties. But on the strength of his more than successful 2021 campaign, the Norman intends to continue his momentum, the spirit " open " and above all serene.

“We will have to approach it prepared for any eventuality. It's a new start for all the teams, who are practically starting from scratch, we are facing a clean sheet scenario. It will be a big challenge for the teams to figure out how to build the best possible car to comply with the new regulations. »

“I have no doubt about the capabilities of our team and, so far, they are quite satisfied with the work they have accomplished. Like everyone else, they've been working on it for many months now, but it's hard to get an idea of ​​what we can expect before the car hits the track in Barcelona for the first time. I'm sure this season will be full of twists and turns. »

“I really hope I can fight at the front”

Not far from securing fifth place in the constructors' championship in 2021, Alpha Tauri continues on his merry way. Pierre Gasly's results last year, especially in qualifying, speak for this changing team. Despite the lack of means – and sometimes materials – she fights with her weapons. The French driver intends to shine even more regularly this season:

“I really hope this is a year where I can fight at the front, finish regularly in the top 5 and even more if the car is good enough for it. We must be prepared to face whatever situation arises.

Mentally, I prepared myself for all possible scenarios. Personally, I will push the team to always do their best. Last year we came close to fifth place in the constructors' standings, it would be great to get there this year. It's too early to say if this is possible, but I will always give my best and get the most out of our car. »

The new regulations are a big upheaval. Some team bosses had even put the rate of resemblance between the cars of 10 and those of 2021 at 2022%. One of these major developments? The tires, which went from 13 to 18 inches during the off-season:

“Aesthetically it's a big change, it also makes the cars heavier and affects the way they are driven, and I think it adds yet another element and challenge on top of all the other changes to the cars. They also slightly reduce visibility from the cockpit, especially with these new hubcaps. This, along with all the other changes to the car, means there will be a lot of work to do during free practice each race weekend. »

The first meeting of the season is fast approaching. It will take place in Barcelona, ​​from February 23 to 25, and will already be, for some, the justice of the peace of the work accomplished in recent months.
