Pierre Gasly: “Every week things improve”

For his third race since his return with Toro Rosso, Pierre Gasly scored his second top 10 finish, in the form of eighth place at Singapore's Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Thanks to a longer first stint, the Frenchman was able to benefit from fresher tires in the second part of the race against his rivals, although he was unable to get rid of Lando Norris (McLaren) for the gain of 7th place.

But the Norman admits he is satisfied with his performance. “I loved this race so much, comments Gasly. The timing of the first safety car didn't really work out, but the last part of the race was very exciting.

The first part of the event went well for us, and I didn't know it at the time, but we were even second for a few laps before our pit stop. »

It's very nice to score these points. It was a tough race, but a great result for the team for the Manufacturers' standings, as it's always close. I'm really happy with the way we work as a team.

Every weekend things get better and we take a step forward. We must therefore continue to move in the same direction for the next races. »

Notable progress therefore according to Gasly, and a performance which remains for Franz Tost, Team Principal of the Faenza structure, a real reference on which to rely for the Frenchman.

“Pierre had a fantastic race, he had everything under control and he was also happy with the car and the strategy, specifies the manager. He reduced the gap with Norris but was unable to overtake him.

Nonetheless, he finished the race in a fantastic eighth position, showing one of his best performances in a Toro Rosso car. »

And thus succeed in convincing the management of Red Bull in order to give him back the famous second seat of the team of Milton Keynes, Helmut Marko having confirmed on the sidelines of the Singapore Grand Prix that the place should be played out well between the Frenchman and his replacement from Belgium Alex Albon.
