Taking advantage of the penalties of each side at the end of the sprint race, Pierre Gasly picked up a small point earlier in the day. This gave him a boost ahead of Saturday night's qualifying session, as he was hoping for a great weekend in Miami. Unfortunately for the French driver, things didn't go as planned.
Indeed, between lack of performance and traffic, the resident ofAlpine could only manage a disappointing 18th place. He will therefore have to start from the back of the grid. It is therefore difficult to envisage a great result. Unless changing weather conditions come to reshuffle the cards.
Obviously, speaking to Canal+, the Norman did not hide his disappointment. "I don't have too many answers about what happened. I did three good laps and each time I was 5 tenths off the pace. We made some changes to the car to see if that was it or not. But we were just slow on every lap.", admitted Gasly.
A little time lost in traffic for Gasly
In any case, the Frenchman cannot explain where this poor performance comes from. "There are two or three other small details that I think we can do a little bit better on. I don't have too many answers on how we lost so much performance in the car. I felt like it wasn't behaving like it had since the beginning of the weekend.", he admitted again.
However, there is no question of blaming traffic for this, even if it may have been disrupted. "As I was the first out of the pits, you know that if you're first, you'll get caught in traffic in the first sector. So we lost a bit of time with that. Given the gap, there's more to it than that."

Gasly insists: "I did three clean laps. Unfortunately, each time, we were very, very slow. Whereas yesterday, with much more performance, we had the means to get closer to the top 3. So we'll have to work tonight."

His teammate, Jack Doohan, did slightly better, advancing to Q2 and ultimately starting 14th.
