Pierre Gasly, between satisfaction and disappointment

Regular for several months now, Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) showed it once again this Saturday in qualifying by reaching Q3 for the third time this season, in as many sessions contested.

Unfortunately, the Habs did not manage to put everything together and ultimately got away with a 9th place on the grid. A position which does not necessarily advantage him in view of the race this Sunday.

« On the one hand I'm happy to have been in Q3 again because we knew it was going to be complicated, he explains before continuing. The Alpine were really fast just like the Mercedes, Red Bull, Ferrari or the McLaren. We had to put out a good lap in Q2 ».

Still happy to be among the 10 best drivers in the qualifying session, Pierre Gasly does not hide his frustration at the end of it. He particularly points out a lack of performance on the Portimão route.

« I'm a little disappointed with our overall performance because since the start of the weekend we've been struggling on this track, whether in the slow corners or in the wind. We have tried many things but we have not been able to resolve the problems we have.

We will have to work hard because I am sure that there will be other tracks with this kind of characteristics and we will have to be more efficient ».

Left behind in qualifying, the Normand expects a Grand Prix where the gaps will be less obvious. He hopes to take advantage of this to be able to move up the rankings in the hope of achieving a good result at the finish.

« We will have to be intelligent on the first stint and also find performance in the car. It will be tighter I think ". The tone is set.
