En Formula 1, it is not forbidden to go two against one to win. It is even strongly recommended when you have a competitive deficit compared to your opponent. Alpine therefore did not need to be asked last weekend to try to compete with Pierre Gasly and his Alpha Tauri inherently faster. If Esteban Ocon et Fernando Alonso could not prevent their rival from beating them on the checkerboard, their clever team play allowed them not to give up a single point.
