The Norman driver even climbed to eighth place for a time, ahead of the two Racing Bulls which had been his stated objective before the start.
The remaining 17 laps, however, were a real ordeal for the Frenchman, who slipped to 11th place. Far from a disgrace, but still a considerable distance from the eighth-place finish. Worse still, Liam Lawson. managed to secure this last point at stake, which allows Faenza to close the gap to 12 points behind the team ofenstone in the Constructors' Championship before this Sunday's Grand Prix.

« We are too slow, Pierre Gasly blurted out to Canal+ microphones. We need to find a way to be faster. Right now, we don't have the speed to compete with them. It's a shame because I had a great start, but we're just too slow. They passed us, then they left us in the dust. We'll have to find more performance. »
