The first part of the season Pierre Gasly has been anything but a long, quiet river. While he finally asserted himself as a sure bet in the Top 10 of the field, the Norman was unable to showcase his talent at the wheel of a poorly born AT03. Result ? 16 small units in 13 Grands Prix, or 54 fewer compared to 2021 after so many races contested, and only 3 finishes in the points.

On the track, the AT03Alpha Tauri looks to be one of the worst cars on the grid. The result of poor design on the part of the Faenza teams, the car Italian had to wait until the French Grand Prix (July 24), 12e round of the campaign, to receive its first evolutions of the year. Despite these improvements, Pierre Gasly has still not been able to raise the tone with 2 12e places in the two races contested with the new package (France and Hungary). The summer break then comes at just the right time for the Habs and the Italian team, which hopes to find a solution before the resumption at Spa-Francorchamps at the end of August.

« I'm not sure why we seem to struggle more than other teams in midfield, as I don't think we are missing anything in the core of the team,” he points out.

To put an end to this negative spiral, Pierre Gasly highlights various points on which he and AlphaTauri must work during the summer break. “ You need to take a step back and analyze the whole situation in order to see the whole picture., he advances. We need to review what we are all doing, in terms of aero, what direction to take, but also how to manage the use of the budget cap because I know we were already close to the limit from the start of the season. Is this the main reason? I do not really know. We will continue to push and hope to find more development items over the coming weeks. » Faenza has its work cut out for it to get the machine back on track for the 2e part of the season. In the event of further missteps during the first Grands Prix after the resumption, Pierre Gasly and AlphaTauri could then draw a line under the 2022 campaign and already focus on 2023.
