Pierre Gasly: “The objective is to be on the grid in 2018”

Last champion in the history of the GP2 Series, Pierre Gasly experienced the same fate as his predecessors, Jolyon Palmer and Stoffel Vandoorne, namely that of not having a place available in F1 for him following the reappointment of Daniil Kvyat to Toro Rosso for 2017. Nevertheless, the spearhead of the Red Bull Junior Team does not give up hoping that its day will come.

“My plan is to be with Toro Rosso on the grid, confides the Frenchman quoted by ESPN. That's the goal, to be on the grid in 2018. There's a lot going on at the moment, hopefully I can turn that to my advantage, of course we have to wait at the moment but the plan is really to be on the grid next year. »

Gasly gets this confidence from his good relationship with Helmut Marko, the boss of the young Red Bull drivers who decides the future of his foals.

« I don't have a manager so I speak directly with him [Helmut Marko] and everyone knows that he's someone who doesn't cut corners, so when something happens, he calls you to tell you “there you go, it’s done”.

“At the moment we are getting along well. It's still a little early to make a decision since it's only the beginning of August but I think we will have more information by the end of the month."

Growing tensions between Carlos Sainz and Daniil Kvyat within Toro Rosso could play to the Frenchman's advantage given the Spaniard's desire to continue in the Faenza structure for a fourth season.
