The day had started well for Pierre GaslyAfter an excellent start, he was in sixth position coming out of the first corner — a clear, immediate gain that suggested an aggressive race at the front of the pack. But Max Verstappen, in difficulty at the same time after a collision, returns to the track right in front of him at the worst possible moment. "I'm forced to slam on the brakes and I have to lose five or six positions, so I end up losing all the advantage I had at the start.""A frustrating setback, but one that the pilot..." the Norman told Canal+. Alpine put things into perspective: "I wasn't too worried because I knew that with the performance we had yesterday, it would normally bounce back quite easily."
"I've never found myself like this before."
The comeback was never to happen. On lap six, while attempting to overtake Liam Lawson on the outside of turn 17, the Racing Bulls driver locked his front left wheel and went sideways. Contact was unavoidable.Alpine It takes off, performs a complete roll before ending up half-perched on the Tec-Pro. The Frenchman escapes unharmed, but is visibly shaken by the experience. "A barrel roll is always a violent experience. I don't think I've ever found myself in a barrel like that before." F1"So it was definitely quite impressive. I didn't really know where I was going to end up or when, so no, it wasn't pleasant." An incident that cost Pierre Gasly dearly and Alpine : "I'm just disappointed for the whole team because we know there are big points to be won today."

A series abruptly halted
Beyond the fear, it's the sporting context that makes this withdrawal particularly bitter. Miami is indeed the first race of the 2026 season where the car Number 10 doesn't score any points — a streak that comes to an abrupt end, on a play he didn't initiate. The Frenchman himself admits it: Alpine was well placed this weekend compared to the direct competition in the midfield, and points were within reach. "It's just annoying to drop such big points on a weekend where we saw that, compared to the rest of the midfield, we were doing pretty well.", he sighs.
Pierre Gasly's conclusion is simple: "It wasn't our day." A succinct statement that sums up a Grand Prix where everything went wrong from the first lap, between Max Verstappen's interference and Liam Lawson's contact. See you in Montreal in three weeks to try and get back to scoring points, and erase a Sunday to forget for the Frenchman.
