Butter and butter money. Pierre Gasly performed on Saturday perfect qualifications at the wheel of theAlpha Tauri. The Frenchman signedfifth time less than a second from Max Verstappen and will leave behind Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) and Charles Leclerc (Ferrari). “Frankly, we achieved what we dreamed of, everything went as it should. In Q3 I managed to set two very good laps and ultimately, it's surely one of the best qualifying sessions that I've been able to do with this team,” smiled Gasly after the session.
But above all he amazed by managing to obtain a place in Q3 with medium tires, just like the big names from Mercedes and Max Verstappen. He will therefore be able to start with these tires during the race on Sunday. “It was really very hot, it was a big risk, but we know that there is a real advantage in the race. We talked about it before qualifying, I told the team that I wanted to try it and I managed to get through to Q3,” detailed the French driver on Canal +.
P5!! Happy team today.

In the race, his tires should allow him to gain the advantage over Charles Leclerc, who will start on softs. But Gasly is wary. “I said after the tests that the Ferraris were fast, we won't be able to get rid of them easily. Although I admit that I was a little nervous that they would finish in front of me! We will have to put everything back in order tomorrow,” he concluded, still speaking to Canal +.
On a regular basis, Pierre Gasly should not be able to grab the podium in the race against Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. But he can position himself as first reserve, in the event of failure of the three leaders.
