In Baku, Pierre Gasly finally holds its first benchmark race of the season. While the Frenchman had experienced complicated Grands Prix in recent weeks, in Azerbaijan, he achieved his best performance of the season by winning 5th position. The Habs were able to smile again at the finish line by finding a top 5 which had been running away from them since the start of the season. The Normand owes this result in part to the good performance of the Honda engine on this track which allowed him to secure a podium last year.

« It's really great, I'm really happy, it was a great weekend from the team, from everyone so really satisfied we managed to do a good qualifying yesterday from the front to do everything what was needed today », explains Pierre Gasly at the microphone of Canal +. At the start of the race, the abandonment of Carlos Sainz allowed him to go through the pits to put on the hard tires.

More tires available for Pierre Gasly at the end of the race

But when Kevin Magnussen stopped on the 34th lap, the Norman did not come through the pits. “ We weren't very lucky with the last safety car, because we didn't have any tires anyway, we had to stay outside and Lewis got us at the end », Underlines the Habs. At the house of Alpha Tauri, there were no hard tires left for Pierre Gasly and the seven-time world champion with fresher tires easily overtook the Frenchman.

No disappointment all the same for the Habs. “ Honestly a Top 5 after the start of the season that we had, we take it every day and it's really satisfying. » With this result, Pierre Gasly returns to 10th position in the general classification with 16 points.
