Pierre Gasly had been asking for it for several Grands Prix already and in Baku, his dream was fulfilled. The Habs finally had a smooth qualifying session in which they managed to place their car until Q3. In the last laps of the session, the Norman managed to keep his 6th place and in the process signed his best qualifying of the season. After numerous disappointments, such as the failure in Q1 in Monaco, Pierre Gasly had logically found a smile again.

« It is certain that we can be very happy to separate the two Mercedes, finish 1 tenth behind Russell and 1 tenth ahead of Lewis, explains the Norman at the microphone of Canal +. So, no it was really a good qualifying, I'm happy we managed to concentrate on our session, not make any mistakes, stay out of trouble throughout this session and get our best qualifying of the 'year »

As in 2021, theAlpha Tauri was performing well in Baku. Last year, the Habs managed to qualify in 4th position before taking advantage of the setbacks of Max Verstappen et Lewis Hamilton to get on the third step of the podium. Sunday, Pierre Gasly will try to repeat the reassembled operation. “ I hope a lot of things can happen like last year that would be a good thing. We made strategic choices a little different from the others, we only kept one hard tire, most of the other teams have two so we'll have to see what that will give in terms of degradation for the race and in strategy terms.»

« The most important thing was to have a simple weekend, not make mistakes, try not to complicate the weekend ourselves and for the moment that's what we managed to achieve. TO DO. So I am satisfied but now we will have to finish the work tomorrow. » Just behind George Russell on the grid tomorrow, Pierre Gasly will certainly have to count on an error from the leading men to hope to get a top 4.
