Pierre Gasly: “a little angry with myself”
Pierre Gasly will leave this afternoon 12e on the grid just behind his teammate Daniil Kvyat. Nothing infamous for a Alpha Tauri, a little bit below the Renault et McLaren since the start of the season. “I think we are positioned in the expected places, we told ourselves before the qualifiers that starting 11e would be good to have a choice of tires. » comments the Frenchman.
Pierre Gasly nevertheless believes that he could have made it through to Q3 without a wasted final lap in Q2.
“I'm a little angry with myself. I had left a little time on the way but I was doing a good lap, until the last chicane. There I went too hard and the rear tires didn't follow, I made a bad exit from the corner. I lost a few tenths. »
On the line, he was less than a tenth short of moving into Q3. “When I saw the gap it hurt but I only have myself to blame. »
Gasly signs his worst qualifying result this season, tied with the very first race in Austria. “Until now I had always managed to get the most out of qualifying, this is the first time I’ve missed out » he regrets.
He hopes to have the opportunity to go for points in the race, as he did in three of the first six races.
