Pirelli arrives on familiar ground at the Brazilian GP

Pirelli opted for a mix of medium and soft tires at the Brazilian GP, a choice that the Italian manufacturer favored this year, retaining it nine times. If the risk of showers is often present on the Interlagos circuit, the supplier of the F1 relies on the data collected in 2014 to obtain optimal performance from its tires even if the track has evolved since its resurfacing.

“The new asphalt baptized last year has changed the behavior of the tires and it will be interesting to observe how they work with the experience now acquired”, commented Paul Hembery, Pirelli sporting director. “Traditionally, Interlagos loads the tires heavily with energy and therefore we should see two or three stop strategies for the majority of competitors. But as always, we will only be able to make more precise tactical choices at the end of free practice on Friday. »

Nico Rosberg won the last edition by following a three-stop strategy and favoring medium tyres, but the temperatures were particularly high for the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Pirelli estimates that the performance gap between the two types of tires will be nine tenths.
