Pirelli F1 intends to rectify the situation before Silverstone

Pirelli may have designed a new hard tire supposed to offer the same resistance as the rubber from the 2012 season, but the drivers still had to adapt their driving at the Spanish Grand Prix to limit wear on the trains as much as possible. If Lotus F1 Team is doing well by managing to keep its tires well (with a second place for Kimi Räikkönen), certain teams like Mercedes F1 Team had a grueling afternoon at the Circuit de Catalunya. While the Italian manufacturer relied on a three-stop strategy that favored hard tires, most drivers had to stop a fourth time for a race limited to 66 laps.

Paul Hembery, the sporting director of Pirelli, recognizes that the manufacturer of the discipline must make more efforts to provide more resistant tires and have a less essential impact on the results. “We expected two or three stop strategies. There were too many today, the tires were too aggressive. Its not always easy. The cars are developing, we cannot test with the current single-seaters and in-season testing is prohibited. Four stops is too high a number. We are aware that the race then becomes difficult to follow. We will make changes, probably at Silverstone (June 30). »
