Pirelli: Tires still suffering at Silverstone

Pirelli will bring hard (orange) and medium (white) tires to the British GP this week to tackle the abrasive track at Silverstone. The nature of the track involves strong constraints on the tires, due to its speed and the series of turns at high speeds.

“Like last year, we are offering the hardest compounds in our range, because Silverstone produces the most significant lateral stresses on the calendar, which damage both the structure and the rubber. We should therefore see between one and two pit stops during the Grand Prix, particularly if conditions are as hot as expected., explained Paul Hembery, Pirelli sporting director.

In 2014, Lewis Hamilton won by implementing a two-stop strategy, with a first stint on medium tires and the other two on hard compounds. Pirelli estimates that the performance gap between the two types of rubber will be around one second per lap.
