Pirelli bets on aggressive strategies at Silverstone

While Pirelli retained the softest tires in its range for the Austrian Grand Prix won last weekend by Lewis Hamilton, the manufacturer of the F1 has favored the hardest tires for the British GP held this July 10 at Silverstone. The Italian supplier has also selected mediums and hard ones as being obligatory for the race.

“With the majority of teams having favored the softest compounds available, a constant observed since the start of the season, it seems obvious that the drivers will choose an aggressive strategy which, on a circuit like Silverstone, must lead to several stops . As the previous edition demonstrated, the Grand Prix therefore promises to be undecided! », predicts Paul Hembery, the sporting director of Pirelli.

Lewis Hamilton won during the last edition disrupted by rain, a parameter always to be taken into account at Silverstone. The pilot Mercedes had made stops by changing his medium tires for hard ones on lap 19 before putting on intermediate tires on the 43rd loop.

Mercedes will field a car extra for Pascal Wehrlein during the inter-season tests held the week following the Grand Prix. His 2014 car will be fitted with prototype tires (with the dimensions in force this year but equipped with new technical solutions).
