Pirelli: All teams will have access to 2017 data

The first important meeting at the start of each season, the 2017 winter tests should take on even more importance in view of the new technical regulations scheduled in F1, with more visually aggressive single-seaters, and with improved performance.

Paul Hembery, boss of Pirelli Motorsport, returned to the discipline's website, on the fact that only three teams (Mercedes, Ferrari et Red Bull) will conduct the upcoming trials for 2017, leaving other teams out of the process. “I don’t think it will be a problem. All teams will have full access to data and results.

And to clarify things, the three teams selected for the tests don't even know what they are testing. We mix solutions, so if they see something that works well, it might not be what works in 2017. Teams will do blind testing. »

If Pirelli is already working on its future tires, as during the last private tests at Silverstone, where a 05 Mercedes W2014, entrusted to Pascal Wehrlein, served as a car-test for prototypes, the Italian manufacturer expects a lot from these runs to accumulate data for the championship

In order to benefit from the best possible conditions, the Transalpines do not hide their preferences in terms of the location of winter tests, usually organized in the south of Europe, on the Spanish routes in particular.

“We prefer to go to tracks like Bahrain or Abu Dhabi. The temperatures will be representative and we know these routes very well. We clearly want to go to representative tracks. If the cars are very different from what we envisioned, we will have to react. Probably not for the first race, but at least if we have a productive winter test we should know in advance what might happen, and what changes will be necessary. »
