Pirelli: a logical conservative choice

New appointment on the calendar F1 2015, the Mexican Grand Prix will mark the return of the premier discipline of motorsport on a Hermanos Rodriguez track which had not been visited since 1992 and the latest success achieved by Nigel Mansell at the wheel of his Williams-Renault.

For this weekend, the soft and medium tires will be made available to the teams by the Italian manufacturer Pirelli, which admits not having taken any risks when it comes to its tire allocation.

“It’s very exciting for us to come to Mexico, to a new circuit,
explains Paul Hembery, boss of Pirelli Motorsport. Choosing compounds for a new track is not without challenges, but simulation – one of the fastest growing areas in Formula One? is becoming more and more precise now. However, it is inevitable to move towards a more conservative choice in the first year on a new track. »

Hembery also indicates that uncertain weather conditions in the region could also play a role in the strategy. Last weekend in Austin, the repercussions of Hurricane Patricia led to the cancellation of the third free practice session and the postponement of qualifying until Sunday morning.

“We are still aiming for two stops in Mexico, but the uncertain weather affecting much of North America over the next week is clearly going to have a big influence. » concludes the Briton.
