Pirelli is the center of all attention in the paddock F1 since the incidents at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, with the explosions of Nico Rosberg's tires in free practice and Sebastian Vettel at the end of the Grand Prix last August.
The Milanese firm delivered its conclusions on the sidelines of the Italian Grand Prix contested this weekend in Monza, specifying that the integrity of its products was not in question. Further supported by the FOM, the trans brandalpine revives the debate on tire testing.
“I think it's important to point out that we think we need more collaboration directly with the drivers and we've already discussed this with a number of teams and we agree that there should be a clear exchange between all of us, so as to aim for the same objectives. We must have a very serious testing program in the future, explained Paul Hembery, boss of Pirelli Motorsport, at a press conference.
If we continue in 2017 there will be significant changes to tire sizes and this requires a proper testing program. In the past, tire suppliers to Formula One have been able to do testing, and we are currently unable to use a Formula One car for testing. We are working with the teams behind the scenes, and I believe that in the future we will find a solution that will allow us to be more comfortable. »
Pirelli is currently facing Michelin for the call for tenders for the supply of 2017 tires.
