Pirelli wants to stay in F1

Present as the sole manufacturer of the premier discipline of motorsport since 2011 (after having been involved in rally in the same functions) the Italian company Pirelli intends to continue its commitment in Formula 1 after the end of its first lease which runs until the end of 2016, under certain conditions.

The FIA recently launched its new call for tenders for the 2017-2019 period, which must once again see a single manufacturer supply the entire field and Pirelli clearly indicated its desire this Saturday.

“We intend to stay if the regulations are those we agree on, indicated Marco Tronchetti Provera, president of the Milanese firm in Monaco, cited by Reuters. If it is affordable and if the security guarantees that we want in the contract are acceptable. We want the regulations to be similar to those of today, but with testing carried out correctly in order to have the best product available. » The Italian hopes that pre-season testing can be organized again in areas with sufficiently high temperatures, such as the Middle East.

Le Transalpin also specifies that Pirelli is not opposed to an increase in wheel dimensions, thus placing itself on the same axis as Michelin, for whom this parameter is one of the essential conditions. “The technology inside the tires is based on the materials and the structure and that maybe in 13, 15, 18 inches. Never mind. » concludes Provera.

Pirelli demonstrated 18-inch wheels in Monaco on a car of GP2, with Martin Brundle at the wheel.
