Dive into Magneti Marelli telemetry readings

25% wider tires, front wing span increased by 150 mm, car wider by 200 mm, rear wing lower by 150 mm but moved back by 200 mm and width increased by 400 mm, weight increased from 702 to 722 kg, instant fuel consumption increased by 5% (from 100 to 105 kg /h)…

The performance of F1 2017 could not emerge intact from such a challenge. Everything has been impacted: top speed, power, length of braking zones, gear changes, cornering speed, energy recovery capabilities. It was still necessary to be able to materialize these differences.

This is done here, thanks to the telemetric readings that Magneti Marelli – partner of several engine manufacturers, including Ferrari et Renault -, provided to us exclusively.

“From our first simulations, we understood that the lap times on this “average” Barcelona circuit, representing most of the difficulties seen throughout the season and of which all the teams know every millimeter by heart, would drop by approximately 5" around, immediately asks Roberto Dalla, director of the Motorsport division of the Italian firm.

Our field surveys, carried out on real single-seaters and in real conditions, demonstrated that these simulations were very close to reality. »
