Lewis Hamilton will once again start on pole for the Bahrain GP ahead of Nico Rosberg. The Ferraris will start on the second row.

Pole and record for Hamilton in Bahrain

Lewis Hamilton took the 51st pole of his career, his second in a row after Melbourne, by winning qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix which he had already won in 2015. The driver Mercedes signed a time of 1’29”493 which is the new record for the Sakhir track. The three-time world champion beat his teammate Nico Rosberg by 77 thousandths.

The Ferrari were further behind following the drop in temperatures following nightfall. Sebastian Vettel lost half a second behind his teammate Kimi Räikkönen.

Daniel Ricciardo is fifth ahead of Williams de Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa. Nico Hulkenberg (Force India) completes the top eight ahead Romain Grosjean (Haas) Et les Toro Rosso de Max Verstappen et Carlos Sainz Jr.

Stoffel Vandoorne (McLaren) distinguished himself by beating his teammate Jenson Button. The replacement of Fernando Alonso took 12th place ahead of Esteban Gutiérrez (Sauber), while Jenson Button took 14th position. Daniil Kvyat (Red Bull) was the first eliminated in Q2 and will start from 15th place.

Pascal Wehrlein (Manor) managed to qualify in 16th place at the end of Q1. The German is ahead of Sergio Pérez (Force India) and the Renault de Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer. Rio Haryanto (Manor) and Felipe Nasr (Sauber) complete the list. The Dane will nevertheless have to start from the pit lane following his penalty.
