Record pole for Hamilton in Barcelona

The small differences in performance between the Super-Soft and Soft compounds gave rise to varied strategies in Q3. If the Silver Arrows have reached their target with the red-sided rubber, the Ferrari just behind were more comfortable with the tires with yellow edges.

Sebastian Vettel fails at a little more than a tenth ofHamilton and will have his teammate Kimi Räikkönen at his side on the grid, who came back well after an error during his first flying lap in Q3. The third line will be 100% Red Bull with Max Verstappen before Daniel Ricciardo for 2 small thousandths.

Note that most of the Top 10 drivers will start with the Soft tires on which they made their best efforts during Q2.

Kevin Magnussen confirm that Haas is indeed the 4th force on the field this weekend. The Dane is 7th and will be supported in the 4th row by the local hero Fernando Alonso. The double world champion makes his first entry into Q3 this season at the wheel of a McLaren deeply remodeled. His compatriot Carlos Sainz ranks 9th, while Romain Grosjean completes the Top 10 aboard the second Haas VF-18.

Stoffel Vandoorne will start from 11th position and will thus be able to choose the type of tires he wants at the start, just like the other drivers behind him. The Belgian is ahead Pierre Gasly, author of a solid performance with the Toro Rosso. New service of choice for Charles Leclerc which separates the Force India fromEsteban Ocon and Sergio Pérez with his 14th time.

The surprise elimination of the first phase of qualifying is named Nico Hulkenberg. The German driver only had one flying lap due to problems with his Renault. The former winner of 24 Hours of Le Mans is accompanied in the cart by Marcus Ericsson and the two pilots Williams, Sergey Sirotkin and Lance stroll. The Canadian made a mistake at the very end of Q1 while trying to improve his mark.

After his violent exit from the track in Free Practice 3, Brendon Hartley was unable to take part in the qualifying session, the damage to his Honda-powered Toro Rosso being too severe to be repaired in less than two hours. The New Zealand driver will be able to hold his place on Sunday for the Spanish Grand Prix, which will be followed live with commentary on CARhebdo.fr from 15h10.
