Craig Pollock is concerned about the monopoly that Renault is taking as an engine manufacturer while Cosworth seems to be falling on hard times. Even if it means being a little alarmist.

Pollock worried about Renault's monopoly

When Renault Sport F1 signed the extension of its contract with Red Bull For the next five seasons, Mark Gallagher, the head of Cosworth's F1 activities, has decided to leave the British engine manufacturer to concentrate on his Status GP team. With the arrival of Williams, the Losange will power four teams next season, leaving its English rival only Virgin Racing and HRT.

Craig Pollock, the director of the PURE project who is working on the introduction of the 6 liter turbo V1.6 in 2014, is concerned about the monopoly that the Losange is building in F1 while the British engine manufacturer is going through a difficult period. “There is a problem in the sport that no one is ignoring, no one knows what Cosworth is going to become, nothing is coming out, nothing is being said about it and the head of F1 operations (Mark Gallagher) has left the team. Looks like the rats are leaving the ship”, he comments on GPUpdate.net.

Even if Renault demonstrates its desire to become even more involved in F1, Craig Pollock insists on the fact that the Losange is free to leave the discipline at any time, which would put the teams in an embarrassing situation. “Everyone also fears a situation similar to Honda, Toyota or BMW. Renault could very well leave at any minute. Their monopoly will allow them to dictate the rules. If they withdrew, that would only leave Mercedes et Ferrari as engine manufacturers (if Cosworth also left the discipline). They should motorize three more stables each and they don't want that. »
