Porsche, the temptation Formula 1

If the arrival of Audi in Formula 1 has long been mentioned, the brand with the rings has reminded, in recent months, that all its efforts were concentrated on the discipline in which it has shone over the last decade, endurance. Audi also continues DTM but these are the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the new Intercontinental Le Mans Cup which are the driving force behind Audi Motorsport?s competition division.

With a new regulation coming into force in 2011, Audi will have to concentrate a lot of resources in order to get ahead Peugeot during the next seasonsEndurance. Consequently, it becomes unthinkable that Porsche, another of the Volkswagen Group brands, competes with the manufacturer with the rings in LMP1.

This was stated by Matthias Müller, new general director of Porsche, at the Paris Motor Show. “ Racing together in LMP1 has no point, he confided, quoted by Autocar.uk. We have to examine whether it makes more sense for one of the two brands to go to LMP1 and the other to Formula 1. We have to have a round table to discuss the advantages and disadvantages. »

In addition to Porsche's desire to aim for a program in F1, it should be remembered that the parent company, Volkswagen, is still considering an arrival in F1 as an engine manufacturer by 2013. But VW, currently involved in rally-raid, could also choose to join the World Rally Championship, an option which could be complementary to an F1 engine program. Porsche could thus be the brand's representative in F1, an attractive option even if the project is not even in its infancy.
