For Horner, the Verstappen/Pérez duel is “already a spectacle”

The 2023 season already promises to be over as Red Bull's domination is impressive. But, for Christian Horner, there is no need to be tired.

Two races. Two doubles. One dominated Max Verstappen, the other by Sergio Pérez. A single point for the best lap, stolen by the Dutchman from his teammate in the final moments of the Jeddah event, separates the drivers from home. Red Bull. The RB19 impresses, worries, and even jades the teams and fans of Formula 1 as his domination is without appeal. Some, like George Russell, even ventured to say that the championship was ratified at the Bahrain Grand Prix. A weariness which could demoralize those who, during the 2021 season in particular, saw the championship being decided in the last corner, the last lap, the last race.

What if this outrageous domination were to disinterest the spectators, when Red Bull wins 12 of the last 13 Grands Prix in the premier category? “ Several races have been fantastic, and we saw a great race last weekend too between our two drivers, nuance Christian Horner, main team of the Austrian garage. Yes, we have two dominant cars. And if these two cars are competing against each other, that already creates a spectacle. »

Especially since the main team assures that the team wishes to give “ the same chances, the same opportunities, the same cars, so that it only depends on what they do on the track ". But the spectacle could still be diminished, since the policy of the Red Bull house tends to make Max Verstappen its automatic number 1 driver. Especially if the competition were to reduce the gap with the Milton Keynes team… A scenario whose probability the 49-year-old Briton does not question: “ I have no doubt that our competitors will come back quickly, especially when we get to the European part of the calendar. We heard that Mercedes would bring big changes, Ferrari is not happy with her current position... »

And to add: " The regulations are quite new, we are only in the second year. All developments should converge towards an improvement, and the grid will tighten. So we have to maximize our races now, as long as our car is competitive. » Indeed, all the developments seem above all to converge towards a Red Bull-esque concept, where the large bathtubs of Ferrari or the absence of sidepods at Mercedes seem to reach their limits.

If everyone agrees that the reigning world champion team is on another planet, the rest of the grid is in a tight spot. Aston Martin seems to be doing well, but the Scuderia is not left out and the Brackley garage continues good accounting operations despite a car capricious. A field which already offers a spectacle as the hierarchy is unstable, and the little wind tunnel available to Red Bull could also smooth out the gaps in the rounds to come.
