For Pierre Gasly, “Red Bull and Max [Verstappen] have the advantage” in Abu Dhabi

While two drivers are tied on points heading into the last Grand Prix of the season, Pierre Gasly sees his ex-teammate win at the finish on Sunday, as was the case last year on the track of Yas Marina.

For Pierre Gasly, “Red Bull and Max [Verstappen] have the advantage” in Abu Dhabi

The paddock must choose its side this weekend, while two of their friends are tied on points after twenty-two races (a first since 1974 and Fittipaldi-Regazzoni). Industry leader Red Bull, Pierre Gasly Gasly (Alpha Tauri) chose his favorite for the final victory. And it is, unsurprisingly, his ex-teammate at Red Bull in 2019, Max Verstappen, winner of the same Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2020.

“I think Red Bull will have the advantage on this track, they won here last year, we know they are fast. So I'll say it's Max [Verstappen] who has the advantage. »

Building on their first-place weekend in 2020, Red Bull and Verstappen will be at their advantage for Pierre Gasly at Yas Marina, although the route has been modified somewhat since then – the turn 7 hairpin, from turn 11) and from turn 17. The Frenchman nevertheless believes that Max Verstappen will win, and will ultimately be world champion at the end of the weekend.

“Anything can happen this weekend, especially at the front, relates the French pilot. The title can be decided at the first turn, or at any time during the race. But for sport, I hope we see both at the finish. »

As a reminder, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are perfectly tied before the last weekend of the season, with 369,5 units each. But the Dutchman remains provisional leader of the championship in terms of number of victories over the whole year (9 for the Batavian against 8 for the Briton). But for all that, it's the pilot Mercedes who arrives in the shoes of the favorite, if we had to take the risk of choosing one, with this cannonball end to the season and his five victories in Abu Dhabi (2011, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019).
