Daniel Ricciardo, qualified 10th but 13th on the grid after application of his penalty, will perhaps experience his last Grand Prix in Formula 1. The Australian wants to shine at all costs, even if it means trying an offbeat strategy in Abu Dhabi.

Are we experiencing the last apparition in Formula 1 de Daniel Ricciardo ? Far from the vibrant tributes for his ex-teammate at Red Bull, Sebastian Vettel, the Australian will experience his last race with McLaren before a forced parenthesis outside the grid. For his final participation with the British team, the Perth native hopes to obtain one last good result. Despite a Q3 and a 10th place obtained during qualifying, the Aussie will start 13th on Sunday afternoon following the penalty received after the accident with Magnussen, in Brazil.

A starting position which does not leave much hope of winning big points during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Daniel Ricciardo is counting on his good momentum from the weekend to recover. “The encouraging thing is that we seemed to have some rhythm, confided the Australian pilot. Every session we have been in the top 10. I hope that means something positive. It seems that most drivers kept two medium tires for the race (…). One or two stops, who knows what it will be? We'll see, I'll try to be creative, but I hope on the pace we can have a good race. »

Ricciardo happy to have returned to Q3

Beyond his starting position, Daniel Ricciardo was already very satisfied with going to Q3, for only the 7th time of the season. “There were a few too many times this year where I was out from Q1 (…). I was just happy [to be in Q3], but not so happy that I was doing cartwheels! I would have liked to find that tenth or two more in Q3. In the second sector I probably lost a little in the chicane. »

The eight-time Grand Prix winner, the latest winner at McLaren, would like to shine one last time in F1 and score a few points for his team. The Woking team is fighting for 4th place among the constructors against Alpine. With 19 points behind the French team, McLaren hopes to count on its Australian driver in Abu Dhabi to fight on equal terms. Daniel Ricciardo will also be keen to show that he still has potential, which could help him find a driving seat in 2024…
