The 2013 season is getting closer and closer and it is even taking shape. Sergio Pérez is officially the team's driver McLaren, as shown in this photograph published on Twitter by the British team. The young Mexican driver, who attracted a lot of attention last year, arrived at the McLaren technical center in Woking, where he dressed up in the colors of his new team. “Checo”, as he is known, drove up to the venue in a stunning orange McLaren MP4-12C and then posed with McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh for what is the first official photo of him as as a member of the team. In the background, we can see the helmets of illustrious predecessors, namely Mikka Häkkinen, Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost.

This season, Sergio Pérez will have the very difficult task of succeeding Lewis Hamilton, in a stable which was entirely dedicated to him. Especially since in 2012, then at Sauber, the Mexican driver blew hot and cold. He impressed as well by signing three podiums during the season, even coming very close to a victory during the Malaysian Grand Prix. The young Mexican, 22 years old, did not score a point during thirteen races, notably during the six races which followed the signing of his contract with the British team.

If at his former team we continue to defend him, the Team Manager, Beat Zehnder, having recently announced in the magazine Auto and Motor Sport that his former driver should not be underestimated, at McLaren we are more careful. Thus, Martin Whitmarsh, his new boss, hopes that Sergio Pérez will remain close to Jenson Button this season.
“Jenson is the teammate with whom we can collaborate most easily”, explained Martin Whitmarsch. “He is honest and simple, always open to help”. As for his new Mexican recruit, there is still work to do. “I hope Sergio is smart enough to recognize that he still has a lot to learn.”
