ERS problem in EL2: Verstappen worried about the rest of the weekend and the season?

Max Verstappen's first Free Practice session was cut short by rain and the second by... a problem with his car. Very little driving for the Dutchman who heads into Saturday with many unknowns.

A first Canadian day far from simple for Red Bull who had two eventful sessions to say the least. As with everyone, the first run of the weekend was particularly choppy due to the rain; Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez only completed 10 laps each. The second session on Friday made things even more complicated, especially for the Dutchman.

As the track gradually improved mid-session, the car of the three-time world champion released an unusual white smoke forcing his team to bring him back to the pits never to come out again. The cause ? A concern with the ERS (energy recovery system).

“Unfortunately, we didn't do many laps today (Friday), deplores Verstappen. The team noticed a problem with the car's electrical system and told me to come into the pits. They're investigating, but I haven't been back in the garage yet. I'm sure they will find out what the problem is.

It's not ideal, we would have liked to do more tours. Other drivers did more laps on a dry track, others on a wet track. This is certainly not the way we wanted FP2 to go, but the most important thing is to understand what happened, and what kind of consequences it will have for this weekend or for the rest of the year. »

The third Free Practice session (Saturday, 18:30 p.m.) could well be decisive for the rest of Max Verstappen's weekend.

A Batavian who is grumpy during practice sessions is a vindictive driver during the race!! He got us used to a complicated start to the weekend before setting the record straight on Sunday...
