Prost: Ricciardo is worth the investment

Renault Sport F1 Team expects a lot from its future recruit Daniel Ricciardo in 2019. After evolving at Toro Rosso in 2012 and 2013 then at Red Bull Racing, the seven-time Grand Prix winner is preparing to team up alongside Nico Hulkenberg replacing Carlos Sainz Jr who will join McLaren.

Alain Prost, the special consultant of Losange, believes that the French manufacturer made the right choice by banking on the qualities of Daniel Ricciardo to try to regain its rank as a top team.

“Daniel costs more than the other drivers. (But) when we need it to help the team, we take it. Money is not a problem, but the amounts must be justified”, explained the four-time world champion to the Guardian.

“We are going to have two top drivers, perhaps one of the best crews in F1. These will be Renault drivers who are not owned by Red Bull or Mercedes. This proves outside and inside the team that we want the best and that we make the right decisions at the right time. We're not going to spend money without knowing if it's worth it. Mercedes and Ferrari maybe have a different philosophy”, added the Professor.

Renault is currently fighting to maintain its 4th place in the Manufacturers' Championship with a 15-point lead over Haas F1 Team. The Losange still has to defend its position as “best of the rest” for 6 Grands Prix.
