PURE is already working on the V6 for 2014

PURE (Universal Propulsion and Energy Recovery), a project set up by Craig Pollock, former president of the BAR team, and Christian Contzen, former general manager of Renault Sport, offered 1.6 liter turbo four-cylinder engines from 2013. But the change by the FIA which finally opted for a 6 liter turbo V1.6 for 2014 forces the French engine manufacturer to resume its work from the start.

Craig Pollock announced that this change of program would in no way change the arrival of PURE in F1. “We have been working on the four-cylinder since last December”, explains Craig Pollock on gpupdate.net. “We can sell this engine to anyone because it is totally valid. We started working on the V6 as soon as we realized what was happening. We will be able to use certain technologies developed on the four-cylinder. »

However, this change of program did not please Craig Pollock, who would have preferred a more ecological four-cylinder than the V6. “I wasn’t happy at all”, he admits. “In my opinion, the four-cylinder was the best engine for F1. The discipline needs a cleaner engine. Choosing the V6 is not the ideal decision, but it is the choice that was decided and we must respect it. »
