Esteban Ocon found it hard to believe it but he had to face the facts. In a Q1 that was as delicate as it was tricky, the driver Alpine was taken by surprise in the final moments. In difficulty on his last attempt, the Norman could not do better than the 18the time to Marina Bay taking the door as soon as the first part of the qualifications.

On the way back to the pits, Esteban Ocon expressed his dissatisfaction on the radio, pointing out the lack of brakes for his last flying lap. A performance which does not help him at all in view of the race since in Singapore overtaking is not commonplace, a bit like in Monaco. However, the Habs want to believe in a comeback from the back of the grid thanks in particular to a “competitive” A522 this weekend as demonstrated Fernando Alonso with his 5th time.

« On my side of the garage, it was a difficult qualifying and I am disappointed to have been taken out in Q1, especially as we have had good pace since the start of the weekend, recognized Esteban Ocon. I felt a problem with the brakes, which affected our session today. The positive thing is that the car is competitive and the objective now is to take advantage of this to fight your way to the points tomorrow. Overtaking is difficult here, but as always, we will do everything to achieve a good overall result. » For this, Esteban Ocon will have to take his chance at the risk of losing very big in the streets of Singapore where between the asphalt and the walls there is only one step.
