The organizers of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix boasted of having made changes to the Jeddah Corniche circuit after a first edition full of incidents. Obviously, this work was minimal in view of the two accidents which punctuated the qualifying session of Formula 1 this Saturday March 26.
First to the mistake in Q1, Nicholas latifi (Williams) caused a short red flag, which was followed in Q2 by a much longer (1 hour) and worrying stop linked to the accident of Mick Schumacher (Haas). The German driver was taken to the circuit's medical center, then to the hospital to carry out additional examinations but the FIA wants to be reassuring. No injury was in fact detected after a first check-up.

Between all these neutralizations, there was still a hunt for pole position. This excluded from Q1 Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes). The seven-time world champion only set the 16th time, 100 days after snatching the best time on the same circuit. “I had absolutely no rear end. I suffered enormously negotiating the bends. I can’t wait to go home”, even dropped the record holder for poles and successes in F1.
Ultimately, only Q3 went off without a hitch. THE Ferrari monopolized the top of the table since the first training session on Friday, and were logically favorites. However, the Red Bull by Sergio Pérez woke up at the best of times, during the second run of Q3!
The Mexican had never achieved a single pole in 214 appearances in F1. At 32 years old, ''Checo'' signs the ride of his life and damns the pawn to the red single-seaters of Charles Leclerc et Carlos Sainz Jr!
