Qualifications to forget for Red Bull

Red Bull completely missed qualifying in Barcelona. If the Austrian team was trapped by time in Q2 with Mark Webber, Sebastian Vettel showed that the RB8 was not on the pace of the leaders.

Qualifications to forget for Red Bull

The disappointment is huge for Red Bull after the victory of Sebastian Vettel at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel only took seventh place without having set a time in Q3 due to a lack of tires while his teammate Mark Webber failed at the gates of Q3 following an error of judgment on the part of his team. The reigning champion admits that the RB8 could not claim to fight at the front. “It was extremely close. We chose to go for soft tires from Q1. My first lap in Q2 wasn't good enough so I chose to restart knowing that I wouldn't have any tires available for Q3 if I made it into the top ten. We therefore kept the tires in the last session. We do not have the speed to get a place in the top five. »

This poor performance perhaps alleviates the disappointment of Mark Webber who could have hoped to enter Q3 if his team had not underestimated the competition. The Australian's time proved insufficient to be in the top ten after the track suddenly improved. “I was a little surprised by that, the team had a good job on the car all weekend”, added Mark Webber. “We were fast but the track progressed and I was sent off. I was second after my first lap and we thought we had done the essentials, but in the end it proved not to be enough. I didn't use two sets of tires in Q2 but it wasn't the best thing to do. I was told that I should not go out again but the fact that the track was improving was a surprise to everyone. We were really strong in the first part of Q2 and I was happy with my time. This happens sometimes. »
